SUSTAINING WHAINGAROA 2007 was inspired by last years successful Sustainable living month.
Due to it's success we have expanded it to span over 2 full months to ensure that there are enough
workshops and programs for everyone to take part.
It is our hope that you will use this event to develop your skills to find and share ways to live wiser, more fulfilled lives
, in harmony with our environment.

Meet others who carpool in Raglan and learn how it can work for you.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY 13th & 14th
Earth Building and Mud Brick Making Workshop
Meet at 20 Cornwall Road, 10am - 3pm both days
Day 1 will be a Tour of different styles of earth homes around Whaingaroa to
discuss sustainable building design alternatives and principles. Reap the knowledge
of a range of earth building experts including an earth building engineer, green
architect, eco advisor and local experienced earth builders.
Day 2 will be a demonstration of sustainable earth building techniques with hands
on experience making adobe bricks and walls - Booking essential $30 unwaged,
$50 waged plus koha kia for a shared lunch.
MONDAY 15th
Eco Baby
Community House, 11am - 2pm
Come and join us for morning tea to share helpful tips on raising a family in an
environmentally friendly and sustainable manner (without needing to be a millionaire).
All are welcome!! Topics that we aim to discuss include; women and sustainable
birthing practices in a medicalised culture, breast-feeding, cloth and composting
nappies, making your own baby food, the toy library and…. anything else that
people bring to the table - $2 includes shared morning tea.

SATURDAY 20th
Eco Innovation and Energy
Solscape, Manu Bay 9am - 5pm
A workshop with New Zealands legendary renewable energy expert Michael
Lawley from Taranaki's Eco Innovation. Eco Innovation developed the Fisher &
Paykel smart-drive motor for home energy generation from wind and hydro. This
workshop will give a hands on practical on assembling an off-grid energy system,
including raising a windturbine. Bring a plate to share fro lunch- $40
SUNDAY 21st
Labour Weekend Creative Market with Ragbag launch, 9am - 2pm
Old School Arts Centre, Stewart Street
Come and soak up the alive and friendly atmosphere of the monthly Whaingaroa
Market. A great place to shop for NZ and Raglan made creative arts and crafts,
pick up some local organic produce and sample delicious kai.

Learn in a fun and friendly environment how to create beautiful and colourful rugs
from recycled fabrics - $5

Kitchen Garden Workshop
Trust Hospital, Norrie Ave, 9.30am - 12.30pm
Learn to build your own sustainable vegetable garden and have a part to play in
creating the hospital community garden. Bring boots and gloves and plate for a
shared lunch - $5

Plant and Animal pest control
4095 SH 23, Main Rd, 1pm - 4pm
A workshop about animal and plant pest control on private land. We will be
covering identification and management of animal and plant pests, from possums
and insects to weeds. Come along to discuss control strategies of invasive villains
and where you can find help in managing your land for the benefit of yourselves
and native biodiversity - $5
